Slovakia was the seventh country I was going to ride through en route the World Ducati Week. I had budgeted two nights here. The first night, that is today was to be in the High Tatras which are a mountain range on the borders between Slovakia and Poland. They are a part of the Tatra Mountains. The High Tatras, with their 17 peaks over 2500 m AMSL, are, together with the Southern Carpathians, the only mountain ranges with an alpine character in the whole 1200 km length of the Carpathian Mountains. (From WIKI).
I decided to stay in the small ski village of Zdiar. It was one of the most beautiful hill villages that I stayed in the entire trip. Since it was the off season for skiing there were few tourists and I had difficultly in finding a restaurant ready to serve me food!
This was also one of the coldest places that I encountered in my ride. The temperature gauge on the MTS showed 11 degrees at a point.
